Testosterone Drug Lawsuit and Cardiovascular Side Effects
Millions are using low T replacement drugs like Androgel, Testim and Axiron. Especially relevant, many men are coping with symptoms associated with age-related drops in testosterone, or low T.
However, most people are unaware these drugs do not undergo testing or approval by our U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for this purpose.
Furthermore, allegations against manufacturers include deceptive or misleading advertising. Accordingly, men believe testosterone drugs are a safe and effective remedy for weight gain, muscle loss, fatigue, low libido and other issues men often experience as they age. However, these low T drugs may do more harm than good.
Why is Low T Male Hormone Replacement Dangerous?
Among other things, testosterone increases the production of red blood cells, which makes blood thicker. And, this increases heart attack risk, strokes and blood clot risks, especially in older men who may have narrow arteries or preexisting cardiovascular disease.
According to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, men who take these drugs are 30% more likely to suffer a heart attack, stroke or death. In men aged 65 and older, the risk more than doubles within your first 90 days of treatment. And, in men under 65 who have a history of heart disease, the risk almost triples.
The FDA released a Drug Safety Communication calling for new label warnings for all prescription testosterone treatments. Moreover, updated labels now include a warning that low T replacement therapy may increase your risk of cardiovascular problems.
New labels also clearly limit prescription testosterone drugs. Thus, low T drugs are only approved for men who suffer hypogonadism (low testosterone secondary to another medical condition) following two serum tests.
